Owain Brogyntyn (Oenus de Porchinton)

An illegitimate son of Madog ap Maredudd, king of Powys, following the death of his father and half-brother, Llywelyn, in 1160, Owain inherited lordship over the lands of Dinmael, Edeirnion, and Penllyn.

Owain was a benefactor of the Cistercian abbeys of Basigngwerk, Strata Marcella and Valle Crucis. He granted Tagid Lake to the monks of Basingwerk as well as lands and rights of pasture in Penllyn. He sold lands to Strata Marcella and gave lands to Valle Crucis in 1207.
Owain seemingly died between 1215 and 1218 and according to Huw Price (ODNB, below), it is unlikely that the tombslab at Valle Crucis that bears the name 'Owain Madog' is his, since it dates from the late thirteenth century.
